Functional Art Furniture

Terry Bostwick is a studio furniture artist who lives and works in West Linn, Oregon, a small town south of Portland. He has been designing and building furniture since the mid 70's. His artistic pursuits include furniture, space design, painting, sculpture, and conceptual art. His work reflects both his interest in design and his exploration of furniture as a form of expression.

Inspiration comes from many sources. Art Nouveau, Art Deco and early American designs have a strong influence. In the sculptural work, Bostwick suggests plant forms and the body, both human and animal, in his designs. Graceful, elegant, flowing lines from historical furniture designs are incorporated along with gesture and the suggestion of movement.

Terry Bostwick's work is, for the most part, one of a kind, but most pieces can be made in larger quantities. He also does commissioned pieces based on examples presented on this site or from completely new ideas. All woodwork and metalsmithing is done in his one-person West Linn studio.
